National Ploughing Championships 2025

Our Transition Year and agriscience students had an unforgettable day exploring all things agricultural, tech and tradition at the National Ploughing Championships.

We left school at 8am for a day trip to Screggan, Co. Offaly for the National Ploughing Championships where plough men and women come from all over the Island to compete in their skilled work.

Students explored a wide variety of exhibits, from the latest in farm machinery to vintage equipment, with some competitors even harnessing traditional workhorses to plough the fields—offering a vivid glimpse of rural Irish life a century ago.

There were many trade and information stands all over the large site, displaying the businesses and products which they created themselves

These proved especially valuable for Transition Year students currently developing their own mini-companies, while Agriscience students gained insight into farming innovation.

The students completed a ‘selfie challenge’ to capture the array of exhibits and experiences during the day. Great experiences, big smiles and mucky boots!
