Record attendance at school Open Night
Nenagh College welcomed a record crowd for their annual information evening on Wednesday last, 17th January, for parents and prospective students from the local primary schools.
For the first time the event was live streamed on Facebook, in response to expected numbers attending and the demand for enrolment. Speaking on Tipp Today (Tipp FM) on Wednesday morning, two teachers from the College, Stephen O Meara and Kate O Brien, shared with the listeners the idea behind this new and exciting initiative. Nenagh College is fully engaged with the
Tipperary ETB mission of promoting the use of technology in the classroom and “live Streaming” the event helped to get the message out to a far greater audience and focused on the prospective students who are part of this new technological generation.
At Open Night, while addressing the 500 strong audience, the Year Head for first years, Maire NĂ Chofaigh, outlined the strong pastoral care programme which is dedicated to student welfare and to ensuring that the transfer from primary school is as seamless and stress free for both students and parents.
Aishling Ryan and Declan Kinsella provided the visitors to the school with a student and parent perspective.
The Principal, Damien Kennedy, reflected, through video, on the development, culture and characteristic spirit of ETB schools.
The increased demand for Co-ed schools and a need for the school to respond to the ever increasing diverse and secular society that Nenagh College serves. The Principal noted how the school is embracing the new Junior Cycle, being the first school in Tipperary and one of the first nationally, to award Junior Cycle students a certificate which incorporated their Profile of Achievement in areas and disciplines beyond academics.
The principal cautioned, that that the growth of the school over the past number of years may lead to a more restricted enrolment policy in the future, despite the determination of the school’s Board of Management to maintain an open enrolment policy.
After key note addresses the parents and the students were invited to tour the school’s very impressive facilities.
The Principal thanked SpainAV for their technical support on the night, where they were ably assisted by one of the College’s second year students, Denis Rohan.
Digital Skills for Citizens
Nenagh College are delighted with the opportunity to partner with ECDL Ireland to offer “Digital Skills for Citizens” to members of the wider school community (See brochure, attached, for more detail)
This exciting opportunity is free of charge and will take place at the school’s multi media centre from 4.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. each Monday from 19th February to Monday 12th March and on Tuesday 20th March.
