Camóige at Nenagh College

Nenagh College were presented with their new jerseys by Deirdre Hughes – A Sportsman’s Dream and former Nenagh Vocational School and Tipperary Camogie All-Star on Tuesday 24th November.  Deirdre also featured on the Camóige Team of the Century. A Sportsman’s Dream kindly gave sponsorship towards the jerseys for this up and coming camóige  panel.  So far this year they have represented the school on a number of occasions with great heart, pride in their school and determination to succeed in the U16 ½ Blitz, the 1st and 2nd Year Blitz and the 1st Year Blitz.

Speaking afterwards, Deirdre recounted her memories of playing in school, the camaraderie, the friendships formed and the fun of playing with your friends and getting to represent your school in competitions – the rivalry that exists between club teams that is put to the side when the school jersey goes on.  Deirdre remembered winning some Vocational School Munster Championships and succeeding in being an All-Ireland finalist one year – the whole school went to Cavan to support the team.

Deirdre said that in all the games she has played, games won and lost, that she ranks the school matches and wins up there with her successes at county and All-Ireland level.  She hopes that the current panel of players will enjoy the camaraderie, playing the game and forging new friendships.  Camogie in post-primary school is another of the foundation stones for future county camogie players.  Deirdre, on behalf of A Sportsman’s Dream wishes them the best of luck and looks forward to supporting them when matches resume in 2016.

Observation Drawing with Second Years

Our second year art students travelled to Nenagh Castle recently and engaged in the sketching of this 13th Century Structure.

This newly renovated castle is one of the finest cylindrical keeps in Ireland.

Nenagh Castle was built by Theobald Walter who was the first of the Butlers of Ormond.

It stands as a key heritage site for Nenagh Town
