As part of Nenagh College’s campaign for Positive Mental Health, 6th year student Shannon Morrison wrote and played an original song ‘I’m Fine’ as part of our school Talent Show. Here is an acoustic rendition of her song.

 

Well done to our Transition Year students who successfully completed their year in Nenagh College. They studied many subjects including English, Irish, Maths, Geography, History, Music, Science, Computer Studies, Chinese, Business, Engineering, P.E. & Leadership. They also had a wide variety of school trips both nationally and internationally. Their next challenge, beginning the leaving cert cycle in 5th Year. Nenagh College would also like to express our thanks to TY Coordinator Mr. Padraig Shrahan who worked very hard to make TY a success.

 

Nenagh College, in partnership with the ICS Foundation and funded by the Department of Communication, Climate Action and Environment, hosted a Digital Skills for Citizens Computer Course over five weeks which finished on Tuesday 20th March.  Participants commended the skills that have learned which allow them to become more active on-line citizens. The course is designed to give people the confidence, motivation and skills to take their first steps online, so that they can play their part in an increasingly digital world. During the course, the attendees developed their emailing skills, used social media apps and on-line government services in addition to researching the internet. It was a very enjoyable course for all involved. Congratulations to all participants.

Nenagh College Business teacher, Catherine O’Keeffe, has been selected by National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA) to advise on assessment work in Junior Cert Business Studies. Ms. O’Keeffe submitted some samples of her student’s work for publication on the NCCA website.

The publication of the work, by Nenagh College students, will enable the NCCA to identify and demonstrate the possibilities and approaches to Classroom based assessments and are intended to identify and indicate national standards. These examples, of Nenagh College students’ work, will be used by teachers, across the country, as part of their professional development.

School Principal, Damien Kennedy, acknowledged Ms. O’Keeffe’s work in this area and congratulated both her and her students’ for the selection of the work, as exemplars of best practice on a national scale. He further noted that the enthusiastic engagement of all Nenagh College teaching staff with new Junior Cycle was reflected in this recognition.

Nenagh College PE teacher and Eire Óg senior hurler, Adam Grattan is pictured with Eire Óg Chairman, Enda Costello and School Principal, Damien Kennedy, following his graduation from Carlow IT with his Certificate in Management and Leadership (Gaelic Games) Course.

This new programme, which was offered in 2017 / 2018 for the first time is designed to complement the values of the GAA and support its managers and coaches to learn new ways of managing and leading in a sporting context. The programme has been carefully constructed to acknowledge and develop the leadership and management skills required by those involved in team management and leadership roles in a dynamic sporting environment.

Reflecting on the value of the course to both the school and the club, Adam acknowledged the tremendous benefit it will be, to him, in coaching at both school and club level, having had the opportunity to work, throughout the course with some of the most, high profile coaches in the country.

Nenagh College and Nenagh Eire Óg are partners in the use of the Liam Heffernan sports complex, with the club using the school are a winter training base for many of its teams.

Well done to Nenagh College second year student Cori Gleeson who won her All Ireland boxing final at Dublin’s National Stadium on Friday 18th May.

Nenagh College sends best wishes to former students, Tipp senior hurlers, Barry Heffernan and Willie Connors on their Championship debuts this Sunday and Kevin O Halloran who lines out with Senior Footballers on Saturday.

Well done to Nenagh College Junior Girl’s soccer team who received silver medals in the Shannonside League. The girls played brilliantly but lost out to Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh in the final.

As part of the Adventure Journey of the Gaisce Bronze Award, 28 TY students and 3 supervising teachers, Ms. Dillon, Ms. Kearney & Mr. Cox travelling to Glendalough in Co. Wicklow. The group stayed in the Glendalough International Youth Hostel and over two days, completed a 25km walk. A great time had by all!
