Cross-Curricular: French Culture/Religion

Religion teacher Ms. Dillon very kindly visited French classes to tell students about the celebration of the feast of the Epiphany in France. The 6th January is the twelfth day of Christmas when the three wise men arrived with gifts for Jesus. It is a holiday in France and is celebrated with a ‘Galette des Rois’ , a French cake made with puff pastry. This cake usually contains a French figurine of a king and the person who finds it in their slice of cake is given a crown and will have good luck that year. Merci beaucoup to Ms. Dillon for sharing her knowledge and for bringing in a Galette des Rois for the students to sample. It was delicious!

Apprenticeships and Traineeships- Visit from Damian Walshe Tipperary ETB to Senior Cycle students

Damian Walshe is the Senior Training Advisor for Tipperary ETB. He visited Nenagh college and spoke to senior cycle students about apprenticeships and traineeship pathways. He informed students about the traditional craft apprenticeships and also introduced students to the range of industries that have been included under the umbrella of apprenticeships since 2016. Students now have a choice of apprenticeship options ranging from industries such as Computer & ICT, MedTech, Insurance, Finance, Accountancy, Logistics and Hospitality sectors. The choices available to students thinking about career opportunities and training after school, is being developed all the time. Damian went onto inform students about traineeship options available throughout the country and specifically in Tipperary. Some of the training takes place in Tipperary ETB’s Training Centre located in Archerstown Business Park in Thurles. The centre trains apprentices from all over Ireland on their Phase 2 “off-the-job” training phase. Currently, training is provided for apprentices in the following trades: Electrical, Electronic Security Systems and Construction Plant Fitting with additional training for Traineeships.
A massive thank you to Damian for calling out to Nenagh College to impart advice and information to students about the new and exciting expansion of the apprenticeship and training sector.
