Junior Achievement Ireland and Fiserv – talks and workshops with 3rd and 5th years

Junior Achievement Ireland is a non-profit organisation which helps large numbers of students each year. They empower young people to realise their potential by valuing education and understanding how to succeed in the world of work.

The Junior Achievement programmes are facilitated by business volunteers who encourage young people to develop the skills they need to succeed in a changing world.

They bring the world of work into the classroom, by providing hands-on practical learning experiences in employability, entrepreneurship, financial literacy and the value of STEM. This year Junior Achievement Ireland set our school up with Fiserv.

Samantha Neary and Brian Fogarty from Fiserv Nenagh provided a blended learning model consisting of 4 hours training with the 5th year LCVP on career success. The students really enjoyed the training and gained real life experiences which will assist them going forward.

Caroline Casey from Fiserv Clonskeagh also provided 3rd year Business Students with a very insightful talk on different careers in computer science. This inspired our students and gave them ideas for their future. Ms O Keeffe was extremely grateful for such an insight into life in the real world.

Anna Marie Ryan from Fiserv will deliver a 4 hour financial literacy programme to 6th years in the coming weeks.

Cross-Curricular: French Culture/Religion

Religion teacher Ms. Dillon very kindly visited French classes to tell students about the celebration of the feast of the Epiphany in France. The 6th January is the twelfth day of Christmas when the three wise men arrived with gifts for Jesus. It is a holiday in France and is celebrated with a ‘Galette des Rois’ , a French cake made with puff pastry. This cake usually contains a French figurine of a king and the person who finds it in their slice of cake is given a crown and will have good luck that year. Merci beaucoup to Ms. Dillon for sharing her knowledge and for bringing in a Galette des Rois for the students to sample. It was delicious!
