5th Biology Habitat Exploration

Our 5th Biology students had an incredible hands-on learning experience! They explored habitats in the woods around Birr Education Centre. This experience gave the students a deep appreciation for the intricate balance of ecosystems—observing flora and fauna, using ecology equipment, and studying adaptations all bring textbook concepts to life.

Thanks to everyone who contributed.

Killary Adventure Centre

On Tuesday 06/05/2025, Transition year students and our 5th Spanish exchange students visited Killary Adventure Centre in Leenane, Co. Galway. The overnight trip was a perfect way to highlight what has been achieved this year! What a trip it was! The sun was shining and this added to the amazing experience. It was truly one of the high points of the Transition Year 2024/2025 experience, thus far. Students participated in activities that included the Turf Challenge, Gorge Walking, Climbing Tower and going up the Giant Swing. The experience at Killary is something that the students will remember and talk about for years to come.

Second Year Fast Fashion Awareness

Our 2nd year students thoroughly enjoyed  their recent visit to the St. Vincent De Paul Fulfilment Centre in Nenagh, bringing with them the items donated from our school community.  For their CSPE CBA they decided to raise awareness about Fast Fashion and its impact on our environment and show how charities such as SVP are helping with a solution by appealing to the sustainable shopper. They even found some great bargain buys.
Thank you to Pat Carrol and Suzanne McNamara from SVP for their very informative presentations.

Oil Painting Workshop

Our transition year students enjoyed an oil painting workshop with landscape artist Ann Daly .
They learned new skills such as how to use a palette knife, lifting out and layering using washes.

Senior and Junior Girls soccer

Well done to both our senior and junior girls soccer team who played the final league game of the season against two very strong teams from Clonmel.
Both Mr. Heffernan and Ms. Byrne were very proud of how the girls played through out the year and are looking forward to next year already!

Junior Girls Blitz

Well done to our junior girls’ soccer team who had an incredible run in Tuesday’s blitz!  They played through 5 tough games against Coláiste Mhuire, Newport, and Tipp Town – showing serious skill, determination, and teamwork every step of the way.

They made it all the way to the final, where they narrowly missed out in a penalty shootout against Tipp Town.

We’re so proud of the effort and spirit they showed throughout the day — well done girls!
