Nenagh College Leaving Cert Ecology Students were delighted to travel to Castlecomer to study the local flora and fauna. This school excursion will assist students in their exams.

Ms Duffy’s second year maths class organised a Ball Wall Top Score Competition for Maths Week. The winner was presented with a Tipperary jersey and prize money. Congratulations Daniel!

Nenagh College was very pleased to have 3 students receive awards at the annual Tipperary ETB Award Ceremony. LCA student Jennifer Sheils received a Personal Achievement award, third year student Leanne Ryan won a Sports Achievement and former leaving cert student Ciaran Willis won an award for Outstanding Leaving Cert Result. Well done all.

 

 

Congratulations to Nenagh College’s first and second year girls camogie team on their blitz in Templetuohy.

On 27th September, as part of their Agriculture and Horticulture module, 6th Year LCA students visited the Kildalton Agricultural College in Kilkenny. 5th Year Agricultural Science students also attended the Open day.

It was an eye opening experience into Farming and Equine Studies.

Nenagh College was delighted to hold its second Hurling Blitz on Friday 21st October for our local primary schools. Thank you to all involved.

Nenagh College 5th year students were delighted to attend the Limerick School of Art and Design Open Day on 21st October.They sampled student life, attended talks and spoke to department experts. Students were extremely pleased with the information they received during the day. This was a very valuable experience for those preparing portfolios for art college.

On Thursday 20th October, Nenagh College staff completed the 2^nd day of DES Training for the introduction of the new Junior Cert.

All 46 staff members, including two teachers studying for their Professional Masters in Education at Nenagh College, were taken through the in-service by former student of Nenagh College, Denise Watkins and her co-facilitator Triona Duane both of whom are Whole School Associates with the Junior Cycle Team which is based in the Monaghan Education Centre.

Teachers in Nenagh College from the English, Business and Science disciplines have already availed of off – site days training in preparation for the introduction of the new Junior Cycle Framework.

As the school is already a pilot school for Computer Science and Coding the staff are also taking 5 training evenings in Microsoft Office Specialist with Future People, a Cashel based company. This additional training for the staff, which takes place after school as part of the “Croke Park” schedule, will greatly enhance the integration of IT in the school and ensure that all staff are ready to meet the exciting challenges and opportunities that the new Junior Cycle programme will present.

The current 3^rd year student cohort in the school will be the first to sit a terminal exam under the guise of the new Junior Cycle when they take their English papers in June 2017.

School Principal Damien Kennedy expressed his delight that the students taking English in this year’s Junior Cert have been working towards this new exam for the last three years with teachers who have been availing of training which, he believes, is critical for this curriculum delivery and assessment.  Further-more, he outlined that each student will be afforded the opportunity of attaining the 10% which is awarded at end of first term in 3^rd year in line with the new programme. The remaining 90% will be awarded for the terminal Junior Cert exam in June.

5th Year Ecology Trip in Birr Outdoor Pursuit Centre

Nenagh College welcomed our local primary schools in for a Hurling and Camogie Skills Day on Friday, 14th October. Pupils trained on our new pitch and also got the opportunity to hone their skills on our recently constructed hurling wall. Training was overseen by Tipperary County stars John McGrath and Michael Breen who were assisted by a number of teachers and past pupils. A great day was had by all!
