Fifth Year Art Trip

Students of fifth year art travelled by train on Monday 11th of April to visit our National Gallery. This year, a very special collection, commemorates the 1916 Rising. Students studied the paintings of Jack Yeats, Carravaggio and we’re given a guided tour of the impressionist and cubist works in the millennium wing. We visited the Dail and Seanad at Leinster House where the Georgian architecture and stucco designs were studied as part of the Leaving Cert course. I would like to thank all tour guides at the National Gallery, Leinster House and our Nenagh College students for their impeccable behaviour and attention through out our day.

Transition Year Trip to Achill Island

On Monday 4th April, 17 Transition year students and their teachers Ms. Carey and Mr. Kennedy embarked on a trip to Achill Island off the west coast of Ireland. They stayed at Colaiste Acla. There was a wide variety of activities including surfing, bog snorkelling, canoeing as well as historical tours of the island. After 3 fun filled days, the group returned to the mainland, tired after their adventures, but with big smiles on their faces. It was a fantastic time had by all.

1916 Proclamation Day Ceremony

Nenagh College was honoured to hold the 1916 Proclamation Day Ceremony on Tuesday 15th March. 2016 is the 100 year anniversary of the Easter Rising and the reading of the Proclamation on the steps of the GPO by Commander in Chief of the Irish Forces, Padraig Pierce. Many thanks to the History Department: Ms. Murphy, Ms. Heffernan, Mr. Cox, teaching staff and students for their hard work and dedication. All across Ireland, primary and secondary schools held a flag raising ceremony of their own to mark this centenary. Many of the important items on display include a copy of the Proclamation of the Irish Republic and the Irish Tricolour Flag.  2016 is a very special year marking one of the most important milestones in our nation’s journey to independence and peace.
