Our TY engineering class are working on applying the finishing touches to their “Homer Sweet Dispenser”

Students are given the opportunity to use a wide range of manufacturing processes in completing this project.

Students will learn the basic marking out and manufacturing skills to make the back plate, the timber centre, the front, and the mouth.

Students will then use the 3D printer to make the nose and the eyes will be cut out using our laser cutter.

Students are then tasked with adding their own design element. Creating a stand or a wall mounting bracket for the project.

The projects will then be finished by painting and polishing.

Congratuations to Emilia & Magdalena Chanas, Benjamin & Zoe Parker ,Mark Griffin, Ryan Gratton, Thomas Ryan and Fabian Gluszak who participated in the Munster Senior Swimming Championship. A big thank you to Siobhan Ryan who organised the participation.

Incoming first year parents had their information evening on Tuesday 31^st January. There were presentations from Wriggle and Nenagh Credit Union on the various methods of supporting the introduction of laptops for all 1^st years from September 2023. 6th year LCA art students have produced a very nice art piece for a stairs . It is in situ in the demonstration room in the school.

Well done to the our 4B Transition Year Politics class who completed their posters based on topic such as Climate Change, 2021 Washington DC Riots, Fake News & Misinformation and Gender Equality in Sports.

The Leaving Certificate Applied National Awards (LCANA) “Feargal Quinn Awards” are presented each year to those students who obtain the top results in the Leaving Certificate Applied Examination of that year, as notified by the State Examinations Commission.

Nenagh College are very proud to have such a student in Emma Freeman, who was one of the students to obtain the best Leaving Certificate Applied results in Ireland in 2022.

Emma is pictured with Ms Catherine O Keeffe (LCA Co-ordinator) at the awards ceremony in The Shamrock Lodge Hotel, Athlone, on 21^st January 2023 with Eamonn Quinn.

Emma’s final credit total is based on her performance in the Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA) Examination over 5^th year and 6^th year, due to the continuous assessment mode of the Leaving Certificate Applied Programme. She is currently studying Applied Psychology and Social Studies in Templemore College of Further Education.

The awards are financed by sponsorship from Fergal Quinn, and the awards are named after Senator Fergal Quinn, who was the first Chairman of the steering committee for the then new Leaving Certificate Applied in 1995. It was he who oversaw the rolling out of the Leaving Certificate Applied Programme, the embedding of it in the Irish Education system, and he oversaw its continuing development in the following years.

On Thursday 26^th January, the VEX Robotics Mid-West Competition was held in Dell Technologies in Limerick. Ms O’Malley and a group of students from Nenagh College entered the competition. They have been working on building, programming and preparing the robot for the last couple of months. They created a fantastic robot that came 2^nd in the qualification rounds. Unfortunately, they were beaten in the semi-final of the competition. The group worked amazing well as a team; with problem solving and strategy planning to the fore on the day. Well done the Robotics Team in Nenagh College!
