New Deputy Principal at Nenagh College

A new era dawned at Nenagh College on Wednesday 11th November with the appointment of a new Deputy Principal, Mr. Stephen O Meara, following the resignation of Ms. Ann Melley.
 A former pupil of the school, the Toomevara native has also been a member of the teaching staff for 15 years. Stephen had served a number of terms on the school Board of management and was heavily involved in hurling coaching in the school, forming part of the backroom team that achieved all Ireland success in 2008. Sadhbh Clancy, on behalf of the Student Council, welcomed Mr. O Meara’s appointment. She noted his contribution to the school during a previous tenure as acting Deputy Principal and the positive relationship he enjoys with the students. She wished Mr. O Meara all the best on behalf of the student body.
Commenting on the appointment, Chairperson of the Board of Management, Mr. Declan Kinsella noted Stephen’s commitment to the students and to the school. On behalf of the entire Nenagh College community, he wished Stephen many successful years in his new role.

Science Week

Some 3rd year and TY students took part in a Zoom event today ‘How to build an Iron Man Suit’ 
to mark Science Week.
A fascinating and informative event delivered by Dr. Barry Fitzgerald, an Irish national and based in the Netherlands is a Superhero Scientist, keynote speaker, author and enthusiastic communicator.
It was the interactive participation & relevant and intriguing questioning in this event that earned our students four books by the author:  Secrets of Superhero Science & How to build an Iron Man Suit . He was very impressed with our students and gave them some very good advice.

Farewell to Deputy Principal, Ms. Ann Melley

It was with great sadness that the staff and students of Nenagh College bade a final farewell to the school’s Deputy Principal, Ms. Ann Melley. Ann departed for her hometown of Athenry and a new career at Presentation College, Athenry, her alma mater. Ann spent nineteen years in Nenagh College, the last 10 as Deputy Principal. Tributes were paid to Ann at a socially distanced tea party in the school canteen on the last day of term. There were tributes from TETB Director of Schools, Ms. Clodagh Kelly and CE Mr. Liam McGrath, school Principal Damien Kennedy and her colleague and good friend Ms. Audrey Clarke. Each of the tributes acknowledged the role that Ann had played in the school both as a teacher and Deputy Principal. Various student groups, the Parent Association and the Board of Management also joined in sending good wishes.

Halloween at Nenagh College

The staff and students of Nenagh College ended this strange term with plenty of Halloween activities.  There were Art competitions, Best Dressed in the fancy dress competition for each year group, pumpkin carving and plenty more.  We would like to thank all of the students for embracing all of the changes that the school has put in place and wish everyone a well-deserved mid-term break.

Halloween Art Competition

Congratulations to all our winners for the Halloween Art Competition.  The First year winners were: Pawel Rejtow, Iosif  Zorila , Amelia Goralska and Vanessa Bednarz.   The Second year winners were: Andie Dunne and Andzelika Lach.  They were presented with Tesco Vouchers by their Principal Damien Kennedy and Art Teacher Ms Beirne.

Card Making for Mental Health Week

Some 1st year students took part in Mental Health Week when they made their own personal cards for loved ones.  They incorporated all 5 themes for the week:
Connect, Be active, Take notice, Get involved & Keep learning and Give.

Brilliant Mondays Workshop

Our Transition Year Group participated in the “Brilliant Mondays” Workshop delivered by author Stephen Kiernan. The workshop examined how ordinary people can achieve extraordinary things. Our TY Students worked on the concept of Goal Setting using Vision, Planning, Resilience & Continuous Improvement.
