Tipperary ETB Students prepare for Charter Launch

18 students from Tipperary ETB schools gathered in MIC / St. Pat’s Campus, Thurles on Thursday 26th April to begin a consultation process for the publication of Student and Parent Charters in schools under the patronage of Tipperary Education and Training.

The requirement for schools to have a Student and Parent Charter arises from the publication, by Minister Richard Bruton in December 2016, of the General Scheme of an Education (Parent and Student Charter) Bill 2016. The approval of the draft outline of the new law will require every school to consult with parents and students , and publish and operate a Parent and Student Charter.

The students, all members of their schools Student Council, discussed areas such as Tipperary ETB’s Mission and Vision and their expectations arising from these. They looked, in some depth, at their expectations of their school and the school’s expectations of them.

The Student Council  contributed very positively to the discussion on the values they see as being central to each school and how these values are evident in the day – to – day lives of the schools.

The students hope to have their Charter ready for launch at this year’s annual TETB Student Leader Congress which will take place in Nenagh College in Autumn 2018.

Tipperary ETB would like to place on record their gratitude to Dr. Finn Ó Murchú, MIC / St Pat’s Campus, for the warm welcome extended to them by the college.
