Nenagh College reach VEX Robotics National Finals

Students of Nenagh College participated in the VEX Robotics competition for the first time this year.  The Mid-West regional qualifying round was held in Dell Limerick and the Nenagh team succeeded in making it through and reaching the national finals in Pairc Uí Caoimh in Cork.

The competition involved students planning, designing and building a robot to compete in the 2023 SpinUp event.  The robot had to be programmed to traverse an arena, spin rollers and move discs to a certain area of the arena gaining points for different tasks performed on the journey.  Each school team in the competition was competing against other schools’ robots at the same time.

The Nenagh College team was made up of students studying the Coding short course for Junior Cycle and senior cycle students taking Computer Science for their Leaving Certificate.  The VEX Robotics competition is a great way to work as part of a team – communicate and collaborate with each other and problem solve whilst developing their programming skills.  The VEX Robotics Competition prepares students to become future innovators with 95% of participants reporting an increased interest in STEM subject areas and pursuing STEM-related careers.

The VEX Robotics team is looking forward to the new competition being announced in May and are gearing up for this in their lunchtime coding club.

U17 Boys Soccer

Hard luck to our U17 boys came up against a very strong Presentation Ballingarry.
The game was played in McDonagh Park, in glorious conditions for hurling. Both teams enjoyed good spells of hurling in the opening 15 minutes, before Ballingarry netted 2 goals in quick succession. Which opened up a lead, Nenagh did not give and got a goal back before half time.
Half time score
Ballingarry  2-09
Nenagh College 1-07
Nenagh struggled to get up to the speed of the game on the second half, with scores from a range of Ballingarry players closing out the game. How ever Nenagh stayed trying until the very end.
