Cloncannon Farm – Ecology Trip

Our senior biology students took their study of ecology outdoors this week with a visit to Cloncannon Biofarm in Moneygall. Organic farmer Sean O’Farrell has opened the gates of his farm to allow student the opportunity to cover all aspects of their leaving certificate ecology portfolio. We experienced first-hand the fantastic biodiversity on Sean’s farm. Sean was joined by local botanist Phoebe, creating an active and competitive learning environment for our students.

Ploughing Championships 2019

On Thursday, Nenagh College Transition Year & Agricultural Science students, accompanied by their teachers Ms. Duffy & Ms. Kearney, joined thousands of visitors at this year’s Ploughing Championships in Carlow. The outing afforded students practical insights to accompany the theoretical aspects of their Agricultural Science studies.

This included the opportunity to see first-hand conventional and vintage ploughing. Among the many exhibits were: Livestock breeds/management/housing, farm equipment and machinery. In parallel with the agricultural aspects, was an emphasis on traditional crafts, sports and representation from many third level institutions and government departments.

It was a pleasant and informative day for all and this year experienced the highest ever attendance at the event (297,000).
